Credit my buddy Jay Flemma for the quote of the week in trying to separate Tiger Woods from golf.
At the end of the day, Woods is just a man, but golf is an institution.
I couldn’t agree more. Golf will survive no matter what happens to Tiger Woods or any famous individual in the world of golf. The game, the institution, will draw me back to the course every time despite how poorly I may have played or dejected I may have been the previous round.
Some good news for the Tiger Woods camp hit today. Tiger was voted the athlete of the decade by Associated Press member newspaper editors. Lance Armstrong was a distant second.
With all that has transpired for the TW PR engine, this must feel like like chipping in from 25 yards for a double bogey or topping a turd with whipped cream and a cherry. But on the bright side at least there IS whipped cream and a cherry.
What a difference 10 days makes. Quotes from an interview in New Zealand on November 17, 2009:
Media member: “family first and golf second … always been that way?”
Tiger’s Woods: “Always. Always.”
The first major sponsor has dropped Tiger Woods, Accenture.
“After careful consideration and analysis, the company has determined that he is no longer the right representative for its advertising.”
We’ll see if this marks the opening of the flood gates.
So much of this stuff coming from the UK tabloids has to be BS. Here’s a quote from Jamie Junger, a bubbly little “model” from Vegas, right?
“We went to sleep. I was beside him wearing nothing but a pair of panties. Then at about 3am the phone rang. It was Tiger’s mum.”
Here in the USA we don’t call our mothers “mum.” We call them “mother” or “mom.” Some bleach blond bimbo from Vegas doesn’t say “mum.”
There are so many of these types of quotes it is insane.
