Tiger Woods has finished his 2nd round at the AT&T today, posting a 70. With rounds of 73 & 70 he sits at +3 and the projected cut right now is +2.
I found some articles floating around which say that Tiger Woods divorce is on, and that it is close to being done. Having gone though a divorce myself I seriously doubt it is that close to done, especially given that my divorce had a lot less zeros left of the decimal point. Given the reputation of some of these sources I’m taking this with a grain of salt, or bunker sand as the case may be.
According to these sources the divorce is close to done and it will net Elin Woods over $750 million.
If only I was a hot blond Swedish model….
Graeme McDowell is the 2010 US OPEN champ
A few thoughts before I hit the hay from a long weekend of golf, Father’s Day and the US OPEN.
Nobody seemed to want to win this thing. Everyone melted down. It seemed that the person who wanted to lose this thing the least won.
Gregory Havret was impressive and didn’t melt like I thought. He logged a solid 2nd place finish and could have sent the thing into a playoff if he could have birdied the final hole rather than parring it.
Graeme Mcdowell didn’t gag either. At least he gagged less than the rest of the field. Keeping his lunch down better than everyone else got him a US OPEN win.

Phil Mickelson lost two shots to par today, and lost considerable ground. He and Ernie Els sit seven shots from Dustin Johnson’s lead of -6. Tiger Woods fired a 66 to put himself in the 3rd spot on the leaderboard, five shots back. In solo second is Graeme McDowell, three shots back.
Thoughts
Tiger Woods is five back. Does he have enough game right now to make up the lead? Typically leaders don’t run away and hide on Sunday at a US OPEN.
Graeme McDowell is three back and will be playing in the final group. I don’t expect him to win, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him shoot a round in the high 70’s under the pressure of the situation.
Phil Micelson and Ernie Els have a remote chance if they go low and Dustin Johnson gags.
Mike Weir had a ton of media coverage on Thursday after shooting a round of 71. Since then he’s followed it up with rounds of 79 and 83.
Tom Watson must have found the golf fountain of youth. He’s T16 going into Sunday. Very cool.
Dustin Johnson
Leader Dustin Johnson knows how to do one thing: win at Pebble Beach. He’s leading the field in driving distance at over 325 and also in greens in regulation. The difference is that this is a major championship. Typically players who haven’t been in this position before melt down. Will DJ melt and gain “experience” for next time or can he hold on to his three shot lead? Tomorrow will be interesting.
Unfair holes?
Every US OPEN there is whining about holes being unfair. Puhlease… the test is the same for all players.
Wow. Tiger Woods’ world is in a state of disaster to say the least. Missed cut two weeks ago, WD from the Players Championship Sunday, talk of a bulging disc in his neck… Now Tiger’s coach for the last six years has bailed. Hank Haney has resigned.
“I have informed Tiger Woods this evening that I will no longer be his coach. I would like to thank Tiger for the opportunity that I have had to work with him over the past 6 plus years. Tiger Woods has done the work to achieve a level of greatness that I believe the game of golf has never seen before and I will always appreciate the opportunity that I have had to contribute to his successes. I have also enjoyed the association that I have had with Tiger both on and off the golf course as I have had some incredible experiences. In coaching and teaching Tiger I have also learned a lot, not only about golf, but about people and life in general. It has been a great learning experience and along the way Tiger has elevated me in my own profession to a level that I never thought I would achieve before I had the opportunity to work with him.
In many ways because of all the time I have spent with Tiger, I may have learned more from him than he has ever learned from me. However, I believe at this time that it is in both of our best interests for me to step aside as Tiger’s coach. I will always look back upon our past half dozen years together as my best days in professional golf. It would be a dream of any coach to have a student like Tiger Woods and for me it has come true. Just so there is no confusion I would like to make it clear that this is my decision. I know Tiger Woods will be successful in the future no matter who helps him. He is an incredible athlete with an incredible work ethic. As we all know, Tiger has been through a lot in the past six months, and I really believe that given the chance, mind free and injury free, we will all see Tiger Woods play once again like we all know he can.
I wish Tiger well, not only with his golf, but in finding peace and happiness in all aspects of his life. Tiger knows that if he ever needs me in any way, whether it be with his golf or just as a friend he can always call. I will always, as I have been in the past, be there for him. From a personal standpoint, I look forward to being able to make many more contributions to the great game of golf in the days and years ahead.”
