Tiger has issued an apology via Twitter for the spitting incident in Dubai yesterday, where he was fined by the European Tour.

The Euro Tour is right – it was inconsiderate to spit like that and I know better. Just wasn’t thinking and want to say I’m sorry. ~Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods spitting in Dubai

Tiger Woods spits on the 12th hole in Dubai.

Tiger Woods must have learned some spitting techniques from Sergio Garcia.  He spit on the #12 hole in Dubai and was subsequently fined by the European Tour.  The amount of the fine will not be reported, but I’m guessing TW can afford it.

“Tournament director Mike Stewart has reviewed the incident and feels there has been a breach of the tour code of conduct and consequently Tiger Woods will be fined.” ~European Tour statement

Apparently Tiger was spitting up a storm while moving himself from one shot behind the lead to a final positions of seven shots back with a final round 75.

“You look at his work ethics and he is a credit to the game and an inspiration to all of those who are trying to become professional golfers.  But there are some parts of him that are just arrogant and petulant.  Somebody now has to come behind him and maybe putt over his spit. It does not get much lower than that.” ~Sky Sports announcer Ewen Murray.

Tiger is the real winner in Dubai

Why is Tiger the real winner in Dubai?  First, it was reported that he pocketed about $55 million for his fees for the billion dollar golf development in Dubai.  It was announced last week that the development was halted due to the economic conditions and the golf course would “return to sand.”

Tiger is also the winner of the tournament because of his $3 million appearance fee.  His appearance fee is far greater than the winner’s check, and is more than half of the total purse for the tournament.

Tiger Woods and Mark O'Meara in Dubai

Tiger & O'Meara in Dubai - Click for larger version

I have a very fun Twitter list to follow called TigerPoulterWestwood.  The Twitter hash for it is @TigerPoulterWestwood.  There are only three people on there, Lee Westwood, Tiger Woods and Ian Poulter. 99% of the time Lee Westwood and Ian Poulter are harassing Tiger.  It is very fun to follow.

Yesterday Westwood caught a picture of Tiger Woods and Mark O’Meara hanging out in Dubai (right) and dished out a little dig following Tiger’s and O’Meara’s win in the Dubai Desert Classic Challenge Match.  The Challenge is a nine hole, par-3 event which pitted Woods/O’Meara against Lee Westwood/Miguel Angel Jiménez and Jeev Milkha Singh and Noh Seung-yul.  Woods and O’Meara won the event by two shots at -4.

Westwood’s congratulatory dig

“Breaking news! Omeara/woods win in Dubai . 1 win in 18 months!”

Tiger on playing golf with his pal Mark O’Meara

“It’s always fun to play with Mark.  We don’t play as much as we used to.  Obviously he’s on the Senior Tour now and it’s nice to catch up and play and we’ll have dinner this week.  It’s always fun.  He’s like my big brother and it’s always fun to get out there and play with him. I hit some good shots and he made all the putts!”

I’m actually jealous of Tiger.  Not because of his dough and all that, but because he has such a good pal in O’Meara.  Having met Mark and talked to him for a while, he is one of the most genuine and coolest golf pros ever.

Wow how about this group?  Tiger Woods, Lee Westwood and Martin Kaymer are paired up Thursday for the first round of the Dubai Desert Classic.  There are all sorts of world ranking implications, depending on where the players finish.  I’ll post the Dubai Desert Classic TV times and channels soon.

Tiger wins regardless of the outcome

Regardless of whether or not Tiger wins this tournament or even makes the cut, he’s the true winner.  He’ll be pocketing a $3 million appearance fee for showing up.

I’d like to save the United Arab Emirates a few bucks and offer myself for this position.  I’d do it for less dough than Tiger.  Let me know.  My clubs are ready.
