My lovely new wife doesn’t know much about golf. She doesn’t know much about the Ryder Cup at all. All she knows is that I’m having a very hard time deciding whether to go on vacation this weekend or stay home to watch it.
What she does know is fashion; what is and is not stylish.
When I showed her Tiger Woods in one of his Ryder Cup uniforms (pictured right) all she could say was “That is not attractive.”
All of these athletes are millionaires and have apparel endorsements with the biggest, best and most stylish golf apparel companies. You’d think someone could have come up with something which looked decent, and didn’t freak out the vertical scan on my HD TV.
Caption This:
Dustin Johnson: “Corey, if you make me wear another outfit like this, especially without a white belt, I’ll crush you.
Jim Furyk: “I don’t care what clown suit they dress me in for this thing. I just cashed a $10,000,000 check…”
Both Ryder Cup teams will be banned from Tweeting, facebooking or doing any other social media-ing during the Ryder Cup this weekend:
Corey Pavin
“We talked about it. The team has come to a consensus not to do it.
“It can be a little bit distracting sometimes, and I think it is important to focus on the Ryder Cup and playing in the matches. We’ve decided to not Tweet this week, but a week today I am sure Tweeting will be all over the place.”
Colin Montgomerie
“We are in the same boat. I think it’s important we focus on the job in hand this week.
“We are here to try regain the trophy that Corey has brought back for us. We have to focus on that job, and as Corey rightly says, on Monday October 4, yes, you will find the team probably on social network sites, but not until then.”
A few guys who are really active on social media sites may go through withdrawal like Ian Poulter, Bubba Watson or Stewart Cink.
Thanks again to my pals at Golf Pride for sending me a set of both the 2010 European and USA Ryder Cup V-Rad putter grips. These grips allow you to show your allegiance to your favorite team in the 2010 Ryder Cup.
I love these grips. They’ve got a great feel, especially for the touch required when putting.
Golf Pride’s description of the V-Rad Grips
With its subtle texture and tackiness, the V-RAD provides a consistent, light grip for ultimate touch around the green, plus a unique semi-pistol shape that fits even the widest range of hand sizes.
Problem
I have a problem. Do I put on the grip for the team I want to win: the USA? Or do I put the grip on for the team I think will win: Europe? Maybe I’ll put USA on now, and keep it on if they win….
Does anyone at the AP (Associated Press) proof read their articles before they’re syndicated to hundreds of media outlets? I can’t wait to hear more about this new competition between the USA and Europe called the “Ruder Cup.” The Ruder Cup is similar to the Ryder Cup, except the players are much more rude.
What is even more amazing, is that googling “Ruder Cup” comes up with 122,000 results. There are pages and pages of search results linking to sports sites, newspapers and magazines which publish the thing without even noticing the typo in the tile… DUH.
