Phil Mickelson has confirmed he’ll be playing in the final major of the year, the 2009 PGA Championship at Hazeltine. This is good.
Will the fourth and final major of the year have a big name winner? So far, no big names like Phil, Tiger, Sergio…
There are few PGA Tour tournaments which I actually use the sponsor’s name when describing them. Typically I try to leave sponsor’s names out because I feel they devalue the event, plus sponsors come and go. I prefer to call it the “Bob Hope” instead of the “Bob Hope Chrysler Classic.”
One which is hard not to use the sponsor’s name is the Buick Open, which has been around for about 50 years with Buick as the title sponsor. That is apparently going to come to an end after this year.
So I wonder who will be the next sponsor of the Buick Open. Perhaps Volkswagen? “Welcome to the 2010 Volkswagen Buick Open.”

Heck of a leaderboard right now with Retief Goosen, Anthony Kim and others all with a chance to win. Mike Weir isn’t out of the realm of possibilities either at four back. Watching PGA Tour golf on Monday doesn’t suck!
