The cut fell at +3 this year and a few very notable players failed to better that mark:
Rory McIlory will have to wait another year to attempt to win the career grand slam.
Matt Kuchar has been solid for years at the Masters despite not winning, but this year he missed the cut.
Another player who has historically been a factor deep into the weekend at Augusta National is Jason Day, until this week.
Former champions who missed the cut include Dustin Johnson, Danny Willett, Mike Weir, Sergio Garcia, Zach Johnson, Ian Woosnam, Sandy Lyle, Fred Couples, Vijay Singh, Larry Mize, Bernard Langer.
Bruce Koepka was visibly struggling to read putts and walk following a recent knee surgery.
Lee Westwood has been one of the hottest golfers on the planet recently, but couldn’t carry that momentum into Augusta.
Today is both Mike Weir’s and Jim Furyk’s 40th birthday. To celebrate this event, I went golfing today. Thanks guys.
I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Mike Weir several times. The picture here is of me, Mike and my two youngest kids.
In person Weir is intense, has very “steely” eyes and is extremely athletic looking. Weir lives a few minutes down the road from me so I can call him my neighbor.
Weir improved for 2008?
I’m very happy to see Mike leading into the final round of the Mercedes tomorrow and his swing looks great. He’s made a few swing tweaks and is obviously coming off of some momentum from last season’s finish.
What looks even better than his swing tweaks so far is his putting. His stroke looks very pure, confident and right on line. When Weir is in the zone with his putter, nobody is better from 5-10 feet.
Best of luck Sunday Mike!
