You’ve procrastinated just about long enough, now you’re not sure what to do for the golfer on your Christmas list! Here are a few quick ideas for you, most of which you should be able to pick up just about anywhere golf equipment and accessories are sold, or at your local golf course.
Golf Tees
Fill your golfer’s stocking up with golf tees. Seriously. We golfers can never have too many.
I suggest checking out the Tornado Tee, Champ Zarma Fly Tee, or Frogger Green Monsters.
Ball Towel
I love having a wet/dry towel in my pocket. It is great to have when I get to the green and realize my ball needs some cleaning and my large towel is far away from me off the green.
I suggest a Frogger Amphibian Ball Towel, which should be available in big box golf stores.
Golf Glove
If your golfer wears a glove, pick up one or two. Golf glove wearers can never have enough. If you’re not sure what size or brand to get, sneak a peek inside your golfer’s bag and check out one of his/her gloves in there.
I’m quite fond of Asher Golf Gloves.
Golf Balls
Just like golf tees, we golfers can NEVER have enough golf balls! Not sure what brand your golfer likes? Just like the glove gig above, take a peek in his/her bag and see what balls are in there. If it’s a mixture or you’re still not sure, I’d go with a Bridgestone Golf ball.
If your golfer is a low handicap go for the B330 or B330-S, and for a mid-handicap go for the B330-RX or B330-RXS. Higher handicaps perhaps the Bridgestone E-Series balls would be good.
Lessons from a PGA Pro
A gift that will keep on giving for a long time would be some lessons. Any golfer, no matter the ability level, could greatly benefit with lessons from a PGA Pro.
Head to your golfer’s home course or a nearby course and pick up a gift certificate or buy them a set of lessons.
Golf
While you’re at your local course, pick up the golfer on your list some GOLF. Most courses sell gift certificates, or even multi-round punch cards.
Pick up the golfer on your list a five or 10 golf round punch card, or perhaps some buckets of balls on the practice range.
Bacon
If all else fails above, pick up some bacon for the golfer on your Christmas list.
Why? Because: BACON!
Below is a Christmas gift guide, also known as “holiday gift guide” for those who are politically correct. Unlike my recent apparel gift guide and electronic golf gadget gift guide, this one focuses on a price point. All items in this golf gift guide are under $50. Laser Rangefinder
A fairly new golf laser rangefinder is the killer Bushnell Tour Z6 “Jolt.” It electrocutes you when you 3-putt, as punishment. Well, not really but it should.
The Z6 Jolt is a solid laser for those of you like me who prefer exact yardages.
Golf GPS
Golf Buddy’s VS4 Mini Talking GPS is SO convenient. It is tiny and delivers precise GPS yardages to more than 30,000 built-in courses.
A voice automatically informs you when you’re on the next hole, and will give you yardages whenever the button is pressed.
Personal Launch Monitor
Practice and fitting clubs is greatly helped by the use of a launch monitor. But some launch monitors, as great as they are, cost more than a new car.
The Swing Caddie SC100 Personal Golf Launch Monitor gives the golfer some great data like ball speed, shot distance, swing speed, and smash factor.
Shot Tracking
Game Golf’s Digital Tracking System is up for the HOG product of the year awards.
This GPS based system tracks all of the golfer’s shots on any golf course. Once home, the golfer loads the data into the computer and can track each shot over a Google map, and see all sorts of great game-helping statistics.
Music
For those who like to have some music playing while practicing on the range, in the shower, or even…gulp… on the course, check out the Boom Swimmer Waterproof Bluetooth Speaker.
Unit available at the Apple store. Please, no Kenny G.
This is a perfect book for me (no not a picture book). It is the kind of book I can grab and read a page or two and glom some mild entertainment from.
I played golf with a masseuse. She rubbed me the wrong way.
and…
I played golf with a midget. He had a great short game.
These are a couple of highlights from the golf joke book Two Golf Balls Rolled Into A Bar
This is a fun book to have sitting around at the office, on the coffee table, or by the commode.
Suggested Jokes for Volume 2
“You know you’re a bad golfer when you need to re-grip your ball retriever.”
“A blind squirrel humps a broken military clock twice a day (obviously more to this story).”
“Golf is 90% mental. The other 10% is in your head.”
“I asked my caddie if I could hit through the tree saying ‘trees are 90% air.’ He said, ‘so is a screen door.'”
I’m a traditionalist when it comes to playing the game of golf and as such I have not been of the belief that music should be played on speakers during a round. I’ve played golf with a few who have done so in their golf carts and kept the volume down so as to not bother anyone else, and I suppose that’s fine. I’m trying to accept listening to music on the course in the “grow golf” perspective. So perhaps it is acceptable, so long as it does not ruin the experience of other golfers. With that said, please keep the barftastic Kenny G, Hootie and the Blowfish, Dave Matthews, John Mayer, and James Taylor the hell away from me.
If you want to play some metal or progressive rock, lets talk. Perhaps some Lamb of God, Meshuggah, Sevendust, Porcupine Tree, Tool…
The Boom Swimmer Bluetooth speaker is your ticket for listening to some fabulous metal on the course. It comes in a small and waterproof package but cranks up nicely, with some surprising bass response. Not enough to rattle my bowels loose like I prefer, but not bad given the size.
The Swimmer (as one might gather from the name) is waterproof. So if you’re golfing in the rain, the unit has no problems with that. Also, you can hang it in the shower (pic below) and listen to tunes while scrubbing behind your ears.
Here are the basic features and highlights:
Setup is very easy. A couple of button pushes on your iPhone, Android Phone, iPad, tablet, computer or any bluetooth device and you’re sending a signal to the unit. I even used the unit on Halloween to play scary sounds and music on my front porch. No wires. Great.
Conclusion
The Swimmer can be used in so many applications other than just golf. It would make a great Christmas gift!
