I’ve finally put a TaylorMade driver into play. No it isn’t the TaylorMade M1, or M2 or M5 (wait, that was Star Trek)… It’s a Tour Preferred 8.5 degree midsize System2 driver. This thing is a beast. Nope, it’s not adjustable. Can’t tweak the loft or the lie or adjust the compass on the bottom to north. All this driver does is open beer bottles and boy does it do a fantastic job. I’ve really tested this golf driver head bottle opener hard.
One can’t be too safe when it comes to golf accessories this important. A solid backup is a must. That’s why I have the Wilson Patty Berg Autograph persimmon driver, below.
This great use of old golf clubs is courtesy of a long time friend of the blog named Scott Jesse. Scott is a veteran and former golf pro who has a history of making some neat golf accessories.
These bottle openers can be purchased for a mere $15 plus shipping through the Elmjay Antiques and Up Cycle Facebook page. That beats the hell out of buying a $500 driver that will be obsolete and $24.99 in the used bin at the golf store before you reach the top of your backswing.
Think of Father’s Day, Christmas, birthdays for golfers… So many great applications. How about these being the default openers at your golf club?
Christmas is coming up soon and what better way to spread the holiday cheer than with a fine Honduran cigar? How about this one, the Romeo Y Julieta House of Capulet Toro?
This cigar is a very tasty cigar for my not-so-professional cigar taste, not too strong. Medium strength is good for me. The flavor stays consistent, even toward the end of the cigar’s life where some can get a bit nasty. This size will last me several holes to perhaps 1/3 of a round on the golf course, or about 40-60 minutes on the front porch. Even the lovely bride, who is a newb to cigars, enjoys this one despite the strength being a little bit higher than she would prefer.
The numbers for me don’t lie. My golf scores when enjoying a fine cigar are a good 40% better. I’m not kidding. Perhaps it is that the cigar helps me relax, or perhaps keeps my mind eating itself with bad memories of the last 3-putt. Out of courtesy I always give my opponents an opportunity to surrender as I light up my next cigar.
Well it is that time of year, the “gift guides” are all over the blogosphere now. Ah, I remember back in the days when I did one of the only golf blog Christmas gift guides. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
Today’s golf gift guide is specifically geared around golf apparel. Featured below I have several golf apparel suggestions. Click the title of each one, or the image to read the full review. Happy Christmas shopping! If you follow my suggestions, your gift recipient will be very happy.
I have to include the Hooked On Golf Blog 2014 Apparel Product of the Year. This is an absolutely amazing sweater, made from baby alpaca fur. I wore it today.
The best golf shoes I’ve worn in 2015 are the FootJoy Hyperflex. These wild looking shoes have provided a very stable base along with comfort to last walking round after round.
Dunning is one of the absolute best golf apparel brands on the planet. This 1/4 zip thermal has been a gamer in my golf scripting for nearly a year. So comfortable and so good looking.
Any HOG reader knows already that Kentwool Socks are THE best golf sock, ever in the whole universe. Now they have colors for your favorite college teams. These aren’t cheap, but I REFUSE to wear any other sock.
Get the person on your Christmas gift list a custom milled golf buckle and belt from NXT18 Golf. Send them a graphic and they’ll put it right on the buckle. If you’re not sure what graphic to use, they have the HOG logo on file.
This golf polo is super comfortable, very classy and simple, and keeps the player dry even in the most humid conditions. Highly recommended.
I need another golf bag like I need a hole in the head. But I had some pro shop money which was about to expire and this lovely University of Utah Utes themed golf bag caught my eye.
This is a great golf Christmas gift idea, a University themed golf bag. Most local pro shops around these parts at most of the golf courses have these bags for the local colleges and universities. If you have a person on your Christmas (holiday for you PC people) gift list, check with your local golf course or golf shop about a golf bag themed with your recipient’s favorite team.
Pop quiz: What college football team is currently ranked #5 in the AP poll and is still undefeated?
Answer: My University of Utah Utes.
In the festive spirit of college football and college sports in general, Kentwool is now making a new rainbow of colors for their Tour Profile golf socks called the Gameday Collection. The Gameday Collection features color schemes from most colleges out there, including my Utah Utes. Kentwools are the ONLY socks I wear. Period. That’s it. These wool socks are unbelievable and by far the best socks I’ve ever worn, bar none.
For info on the new product line see the HogWire press release from Kentwool.
