I’ve been gaming the Travis Mathew “We Like to Paddy” polo for a couple of months now. It is one of my top go-to shirts, and I have a LOT of shirts. Let’s take a look.
Fabric/Technology
The Paddy (for short) is made from 62% recycled Polyester, 31% cotton and 7% Spandex. The Polyester and Spandex make the polo super easy to mange in terms of washing, wrinkle resistance and not shrinking.
The combo also provides super (really super) comfort and performance.
Style
The cut and fit of this polo is perfect. I’m not big on tight fitting shirts, but I also don’t want a giant, loose fitting frumpy blanket either. This polo fits is a complimentary way without being too tight, binding, or pulling.
The shirt features a floral print with some subtle yellow and green accents.
On the Course
You know John Rahm? World #1 golfer that just won the Masters Tournament? He games the Paddy. If the polo works for the #1 player in the world, under all the pressure and varying conditions, it works for me.
The fabric stretches and moves easily with athletic activity, or when lifting a frosty beverage up. No restrictions and no uncomfortable tightness in the golf swing.
Sizes/Colors
There is one color way available, white. Obviously that’s the color pictured here.
Sizes run from small to 3XL.
Final Thoughts
The We Like to Paddy polo is one of my all-time favorites! It’s a perfect combination of style, performance, comfort, and convenience! Snag one for dad! Father’s Day is coming up and this polo would make a fantastic Father’s Day golf gift!
I get so many useless golf gadgets in for review that it’s a big deal when I receive an actual useful one! Well here’s the big deal, the HandiMagnet. HandiMagnet is a small golf accessory which an incredibly strong magnet on one end, and a multi-function clamp on the other.
Glove/Towel/Paper
The first clamp, seen lower right on the image above, is for gloves, towels, or even papers like scorecards or pin sheets. Simply attach the super magnet to your push cart or golf cart frame, then hang the glove/towel/paper from the other. The accessory airing out and drying sweaty gloves. Take the glove off and hang it on the HandiMagnet while driving the cart or pushing a trolley down the fairway and let the glove air out in the sun and wind.
I’ve used the clamp to hang a pin sheet and have it right up in front of my face on a golf cart. Super convenient.
Cigar Holder
I’ve been known to enjoy a few stogies on the golf course. One pain when golfing is finding a place to put that cigar. With the 2nd mount (middle of first photo above) one can make any metal object an instant cigar holder. Below my 4-iron has been converted from a club that’s hard to hit, to a club that provides me convenient access to my Romeo Y Julieta.
Bonus Function – Club Loft Checker
An old golf trick to help a player understand the launch angle of a club is to stick a golf tee on the face of the club. The tee points to the angle of the shot. A golfer can use that in practice or on the course (against the rules) to see if a shot will clear an obstacle like a tree. Sometimes golfers will use some chewing gum to stick the tee to the club.
A bonus with the HandiMagnet is this unit can be used as an easy loft checker. The magnet is so strong it will not come off even during a full swing. I tried it and couldn’t get it to budge.
Final Thoughts
Father’s Day is coming up quick! HandiMagnet is a super choice for dad, at a mere $13.99. Get one for dad and one for yourself and still have enough money left over to buy a frosty beverage at the cafe after your next round.
Golf is expensive on just about every front, from green fees to apparel to equipment. Golf clubs are getting crazy costly. $400, $500+ for a driver! Iron sets regularly top $1000. Most fairways and hybrids fetch in the $200 range. Wedges are often $100 and up. Equipping a first time golfer with all new gear could like this could run thousands.
I don’t recommend beginner and/or golfers with low budgets buy expensive new clubs at first. I often point people who inquire about budget golf clubs to the used bin or the classified section. There can be some great deals on clubs there. Clubs which have many good shots left in them.
Until Lynx Golf reached out to me to review the Power Tune complete set, I had no idea I could point golfers with these budgetary needs to a brand spanking new set which includes wedges, putter and even a nice cart bag! Price? Under $175. That’s insane. Check it out.
Included
Driver
460cc’s is the max allowable driver size. This 460cc driver is made of high strength titanium and has a 10.5 degree loft.
A decal on the top of the driver helps the golfer with ball position/alignment.
Fairway
The fairway metalwood features 15 degrees of loft, making it a standard 3-metal. This club is made from premium stainless steel and has the same alignment marking as the driver.
4-Hybrid
It’s great that the set comes with a 4-hybrid, rather than a 3 and/or 4-iron. 3 & 4-irons are very hard to hit. Hybrids are far easier and launch the ball much higher.
Irons
The irons are forgiving and lightweight.
The head design and weighting helps golfers get the ball launched higher and easier.
Sand Wedge
It’s cool that this set comes with a sand wedge. Most sets like this don’t come with one.
This wedge is a modern design with the proper bounce to help golfers get the ball out of the sand more easily. The sand wedge in this set will also be a good short game club for anything under around 100 yards.
Putter
The included putter is a solid feeling mallet style putter.
The putter swings smoothly and consistently, and includes alignment lines, dot, and visuals to help the golfer setup properly.
Critiques
The one missing item with this set is a putter cover.
Golf Bag
The cart bag is lightweight and water resistant.
There are five pockets, two which are large pockets for apparel. The three smaller pockets are good for accessories, golf balls, and personal items. The bag includes an umbrella holder, towel clip and a cart friendly strap system.
Final Thoughts
This package is available exclusively on WalMart.com. It’s only $174.99. That’s an amazingly affordable price for what is included. What a great way to get someone started, or replace an old set. Father’s Day is coming up soon and you could hook dad up with an entire new golf rig for less than half of the cost of a $400 driver!
It’s that time of year again. Time for the annual Hooked on Golf Blog Christmas gift guides, “holiday” gift guides for you politically correct types. Today’s focus is affordable golf gifts. In my guides I feature products I’ve reviewed in the previous year, and provide links to the full review. Let’s get this one started!
Wallaroo Shelton Sun Protection Hat – $48
Wallarroo hats makes some very stylish, comfortable hats which also provide great protection from the sun. I use the Shelton hat regularly when golfing, camping, hiking, or working in the yard. Okay, I admit it. I don’t work in the yard.
Coast Apparel French Terry Crew Neck Sweater – $39
This blended sweater (55% cotton/45% polyester) is very comfortable and works great on and off the golf course.
Kentwool socks will probably be on every gift guide I ever do. They’re simply fantastic and I refuse to wear any other sock on the golf course.
Ricky Johnson Milled Aluminum Cigar Holder – $70
Classy. This is a super cigar holder with a mega-strong magnet. Mount the holder on a golf cart frame or any metal surface.
Monthly subscription gift boxes are hot in the golf world right now. Mullybox puts together a great package with lots of very cool and useful golf accessories.
Chase54 Frequency Golf Pollo – $73
Chase54 makes some fantastic golf apparel. I really love my Frequency polo, and it goes great with their Trekker golf shorts.
Vegas Golf VIP Edition On-Course Game – $29
Vegas Golf is a fun game with chips that are awarded for good and bad plays in your golf group. Add ’em up at the end of the round and collect your bets!
Srixon Z-Star Golf Balls – $29
Srixon has been advertising a special rate of $29 for their Z-Star golf balls. The Z-Star is fantastic and every bit as good as any other tour ball out there like the ProV1, ChromeSoft etc.
I must admit I wear this RangeBall t-shirt as my jammie jams, just about every night. The fabric is so comfortable.
Monthly gift box subscriptions are very popular right now. In my monthly sub I’d much rather have cool golf stuff than an overpriced razor blade. That’s where Mullybox comes in.
A Mullybox subscription runs $29/month and includes a minimum of $60 worth of golf goodies delivered right to your doorstep, as you can see above.
Goodies Inside
Inside a Mullybox are golf treasures, from golf balls to towels to tees to game tracking devices. Every month it is a new and exciting mystery combination. It’s fun to open her up and see what’s inside!
The take this month (above) is half a dozen premium golf balls, a casino chip ball marker, some golf tees, a Frogg Togg chili pad cooling towel, and an Arccos Driver tracking system. Woot! Perfect timing for me. It’s darn hot here right now and the chili pad is going to come in very handy.
Here’s another look below.
