“Proper Threads”
I love that statement. It seems many golf apparel makers are going for shock value, and becoming less and less classy and sophisticated. Those flashy products may be hot for short period, but become passe quickly. Conversely, a product like Devereux with it’s simple and elegant styles, stands the test of time.
The simple and stylish Andrew polo, part of the “72 Collection,” is certainly not one where the user needs to know where the replacement batteries go. The $75 Andrew is sharp, classy, elegant, and easy to put together in all sorts of apparel scripts.
“A closet filled with big bright in-your-face colors and dizzying patterns that SCREAM will not transform you from dud to stud. Oftentimes, the reverse is true.” ~Devereux
Colors/Sizes
The Andrew comes in four colors: steel (pictured above), aqua, coral, navy. Each color easily pairs up with numerous short/pant combinations. I recommend pairing the Andrew up with the Devereux Martin Shorts (review coming soon).
Sizes for the Andrew polo: small, medium, large, extra large, double extra large.

On The Course
I’ve had the Andrew in play for many rounds this golf season, in some very different conditions. Earlier in the spring I put the Andrew through the colder temps here in northern Utah. Then a trip to Indiana had me testing out the polo in high humidity and 97 degrees. And just this week I wore the polo for a round in which the air was extremely dry and the temperature at the end of the round was 104. In those varying conditions the polo performed well and stayed comfortable.
During the golf swing some poorly designed polos can bunch up, pull, tug, and come untucked. The Andrew’s cut keeps me comfortable. Even with my violently spastic golf swings the polo stays in place.
The Andrew is great to wear while writing golf blog posts at HOG world headquarters, or when out on the town. It can work great in business casual situations.
Conclusion
The Andrew polo by Devereux is a solid performer on and off the course. It exceeds my strict requirements for golf polos: performance, comfort, style, and easy care. Set your apparel script up with some proper threads.

Devereux Welch Polo Review – 2014
Today’s round was a perfect situation to put my Dunning Stretch Thermal Striped 1/4 Zip layer into play. The temperatures were only in the 60’s with a steady wind about 10-15 miles per hour. Not warm enough to go without some kind of protection, but not exactly winter golf. That’s spring golf in Utah, or a round of golf just about anytime at Pebble Beach.
Stretch Thermal Striped 1/4 Zip Features
This outer layer is made up of 94% polyester and 6% spandex. No cotton and no problem for me. I love what is being done with these fabrics over the last few years. They’re durable, machine washable, wrinkle resistant, and very sharp looking. The fabric insulates the body well, but also helps it breath.
The sleeves are slimming, meaning they’ll stay out of the way in the golf swing. There’s nothing worse than bad swings caused by irritating apparel issues.
Today I used the included drawstring around the bottom. Once I tightened it a bit those cold drafts no longer crept up from below.
Sizes/Colors
This piece comes in small, medium, large, extra-large, and double extra-large. I sport a large and the fit is great.
Mine (pictured) is the black/silver stripe version. The other color combinations are Dusk/Hastings (light bluish with yellow stripe), Halo/Dusk (dark blue with light blue stripe), Sequence/Light Grey (lighter blue with grey stripe).
On The Course
I need an outer layer to take the edge off of the wind and slight chill, but not too heavy. My black Stretch Thermal is perfect in that situation, and soaks up some of the sun’s heat to help keep my back warm. The garment doesn’t bind or pull during the swing, allowing me to swing freely and crack some massive drives. It also does not impede my putting. I bend over quite a bit and some poorer fitted outer layers can snag the putter grip. That’s a quick way to miss putts.
True to Dunning’s reputation the comfort level is as good as it gets. Style wise? When I wear Dunning I know I’m at the top of the golf apparel food chain.
Conclusion
I’ve dealt with dozens of apparel companies and reviewed countless products over the last 10+ years. Every Dunning product I’ve tested, the $105 Stretch Thermal Striped 1/4 Zip included, features the highest of quality, style, comfort, and performance.
I’m wearing this tremendous 1/4 zip baby alpaca fur sweater by Bobby Jones at this very moment. It is so comfortable that I may wear it even in the summer when it is 104 degrees.
This fantastic, stylish, sharp, classy, and mega-comfortable sweater is hands-down the best apparel item reviewed in 2014 at Hooked On Golf Blog.
By being said best item, I send my congratulations to Bobby Jones for winning the Best Apparel Item award in the 2014 Hooked On Golf Blog Product of the Year Awards! I’m sure this is the most prestigious award collected by Bobby Jones to date.
Well played.
At the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando this past January I did my usual stop at the OGIO booth to see what cool new golf bags or accessories they were presenting. I was surprised by what I found: new OGIO golf apparel. At the time I wondered what they were thinking. The golf apparel market is flooded. Now that I’ve had a chance to do my first OGIO apparel review, I’m happy they entered the golf apparel market. Here’s why:
OGIO Roller Polo
The new OGIO Roller Polo ($80 retail) is a short sleeve golf shirt made from 100% polyester. I really like polyester vs cotton. The benefits of a “poly” are great: no shrinking like cotton, no wrinkles like cotton, lasts much longer than cotton, wicks moisture away from the body unlike cotton. So if you haven’t figured it out yet, I’m not a cotton fan.
Looks/Comfort
This shirt is very good looking and stylish. Love the knits and trim. The fabric is amazingly soft. It feels softer than just about any cotton, bamboo or silk golf shirt I’ve worn.
Other Benefits
In addition to all the great benefits above, the Roller Polo provides UV (ultraviolet) protection. Anti-microbial qualities in the fabric keep the polo fresh.
Sizes/Colors
The Roller Polo comes in the following sizes: small, medium, large, X large, XX large.
Roller Polo colors: Alloy, Alloy Black, Blueprint (pictured), Signal Red
On The Course
The most important qualities a polo can offer me on the course are, in this order of importance: performance, comfort, style.
In the performance area, this polo is fantastic. During all parts of the golf swing the polo never binds or catches. No tight spots.
In the comfort department, as mentioned previously, the fabric of this shirt is mega-soft. This polo is one of the most comfortable golf shirts I’ve ever worn.
In the style department, this baby is uber-cool.
Conclusion
There is a lot of trial and error when creating a new product line. OGIO has done a fantastic job with their new apparel line and the Roller Polo is a fine example. The Roller is stylish, comfortable, easily cared for, and high performance.
Well played OGIO. Well played.

I’ve been diligently testing two Greg Norman ML75 golf polos recently. I’ve put them through the rigors at the office, through many golf rounds (high and low), laundry batches, and cooking sessions making killer Greek dishes for dinner. Let’s take a look at the ML75 features, then look at how it performed in those varying environments.
ML75 Features
Sizes and Colors
The ML75 comes in many different patterns as well as solid colors. Too many to list, but the two I tested are a great looking striped purple and striped black (see both photos).
Sizes for the ML75 include small, medium, large, extra-large, and double extra-large.
On The Course, In The Office, In The Kitchen, Out On The Town, In The Laundry
First and foremost this polo is great on the golf course. I’ve now worn it in all sorts of conditions, including 94 degree temperatures with nearly 100% humidity. In the high heat and humidity the shirt wicked the moisture away from my body very well and didn’t stick to me during my golf swing. The fit, especially important during the swing, is very comfortable and doesn’t hang up or bind at any point.
In the office the ML75 is very comfortable and certainly very classy. In the kitchen, the olive oil came right out as did the marinara and Greek oregano.
Easy Care
The microfiber polyester is so soft. It feels like silk. Almost as great as the feel is the fact that if washed and dried properly, the shirt will never shrink or wrinkle. That’s a big deal for me.
Critiques
Critiques: NONE. ZERO. ZILCH. NADA.
Conclusion
At $69 retail, the Greg Norman ML75 is a very good value. This polo delivers comfort, style and performance one might expect from polos priced twice as much.
