A new fad in golf is t-shirts, for the millennial crowd I suppose. Maybe it’s the Top Golf thing. A new brand in the T space is “Bogey Is Life.” Bogey Is Life makes a few comfy casual apparel pieces like this one below, as well ask long sleeves, tank tops and hats.

Bogey Is Life

Bogey Is Life

I’ve been enjoying this T around HOG World Headquarters and the fabric is super soft and comfortable. It’s a “tri-blend” of 50% polyester, 25% cotton and 25% rayon.

The name is inspired by the creator of the brand, an average golfer.  Average golfers shoot bogey golf and probably worse if they played by the rules!

At only $24.99 direct from the Bogey Is Life website, this is a great golf related Father’s Day gift idea that dad can wear on or off the course.  For us golfers who shoot better than bogey golf though I wonder when the “Birdie Is Life” version comes out?

Pop quiz:  Name a golf ball that costs about half as much as a Titleist ProV1,  TaylorMade Penta and Tour Preferred, performs as well or better, and is designed be the same engineer who created or helped create those golf balls?

Answer: Snell Golf’s MTB (My Tour Ball).

Snell Golf Ball Father's Day Gift Pack

Snell Golf Ball Father’s Day Gift Pack

In 2015 Dean Snell went solo with his golf ball engineering, after spending 18 years at TaylorMade and seven years at Titleist. He released two balls, the MTB (My Tour Ball) and the Get Sum. The Get Sum is designed for non-tour players while the MTB competes, equals and even surpasses the performance of the major brands’ tour balls.

Above is a photo of the MTB Father’s Day gift pack which includes two boxes of pro-level MTB Snell Golf balls, a Snell hat, and two casino chip style ball markers. This package runs $75 and is sure to make your low handicap dad super thrilled on Father’s Day.

If dad isn’t a low handicap player or pro, the Get Sum Father’s Day gift pack runs a mere $56. Snell is a direct to the customer setup and shipping is free.

I’m going to put the MTB into play and write a full review soon. Stay tuned.

Antigua Vista Pullover Review

Lately I’ve been greatly enjoying and needing to put into play my new Antigua Vista Pullover.

Antigua Vista Pullover

Antigua Vista Pullover

Right now in northern Utah we are in what I call the “decoy spring.” Some days it’s warm, some days its cold. Some days it’s 80. Some days it snows. There are lots of days between where a light pullover layer is just right. I’ve been gaming the Vista on the course and at the office as I’m right under an air conditioning vent.

Vista Details

  • 100% polyester
  • Desert DryTM moisture wicking heather twill knit
  • 1/4 zip pullover with contrast taping & dyed to match cover stitch detail
  • Stand up collar
  • Open bottom & contrast zipper placket
  • 3D silver reflective Antigua logo
  • Five colors available
  • Sizes up to XXL

On The Course

On the course this pullover has been fantastic and a real lifesaver.  Right now it’s just cold enough that a simple golf polo isn’t enough.  Once you get the chill it’s hard to hit good golf shots and enjoy the round.  The Vista has provided a perfect layer of protection.

The fit of the Vista works very well for me.  I bend over fairly far to putt, not quite Michelle Wie style, but pretty far.  Baggy and loose fitting outerwear often gets in the way of my putter grip and often catches, sending the putts off line.  The Vista somehow fits closely, but comfortably and loose enough that I can move.  The sleeves are a perfect length and during the golf swing there’s no pulling or restriction.

I’ve used the stand up collar several times already, to help keep my neck warm and keep the elements out.

Price Point

Perhaps the most amazing thing about the Vista is the price point.  A quick Google search pointed to me to an outlet which hat this piece for only $59.00.

Conclusion

The Vista by Antigua is a great way to take the edge of a slight chill in the air.  This would be a great option for golf in spring or fall, southern California in the spring, or Scotland just about any day of the summer!

Father’s Day is coming up.  The Vista would be a great choice for the golfing dad on your list.

First Look: TecTecTec VPRO500S Laser Rangefinder

Yesterday in the rain I started testing the TecTecTec VPRO500S golf laser rangefinder.  The VPRO500S has features found in units costing $500, but can be found on Amazon for $179.

Some of those features include:

  • Pinsensor (LOL, not pinseeker) technology locks onto the pin
  • Slope
  • Yards or Meters
  • Measures up to 540 yards (good for you long hitters)
  • Very nice zippered case with elastic quick release
  • Compact size

I’m simultaneously testing two lasers right now.  It’s quite geeky on the course but all in a day’s work of golf blogging!

This could be a nice Fathers Day golf gift for golfers or even hunters.

Stay tuned for my full review soon.

First Look: Cobra Golf King F7+ Driver

I have a dilemma. I’m playing in my first tournament of 2017 in three hours and I have a shakeup brewing in the gamer bag.   I hit my current gamer driver very, very well.  I have fantastic accuracy and great distance with my “Snakes on a Plane” driver, also known as an Air Force One (I get my cheesy b-rated movies mixed up).  I have a new snake themed driver which is looking to dethrone the Snakes on a Plane, the new Cobra Golf King F7+.  Look at this beauty.

The smart thing to do would be to simply warm up and get ready as normal, and play the driver I’m used to hitting. That’s what I will do.  It will be painful knowing I have this one to try out.  With all of the adjustment capabilities of the King F7+ I’m going to probably need a lengthy range session or session on a launch monitor (I prefer real balls, real range) to see which loft and weighting configuration works best for my granny over the top dual chicken wing epileptic seizure unfolding lawn chair swing.

Maybe after the tournament I’ll start testing out the King F7+.  And I will likely regret not putting it in play, but it wouldn’t be fair to my playing partner to test out a never-before gamed club in a tournament.  The good news is I’ll be back to play tomorrow and hopefully before the round I will find the right setting for the King F7+ so I can start gaming it.

Key Features

The F7+ has some cool features and what does the “+” mean?

  • Fully adjustable center of gravity positions via movable weights
  • Adjustable lofts from 8 to 11 degrees with varying draw/neutral positions
  • (The +) Arccos tracking in the grip syncs with smartphone to show driving distance an accuracy
  • More features and construction in my full review

Okay I need to get rolling.  I have a tournament to compete in!  Stay tuned here and on my social networks for reports on the tourney and the King F7+.  Watch for my review coming soon, but not a 3-range-ball review like other review sites…  🙂
