As far as I’m concerned Jack can just keep making farewell appearances. It was a privilege for me as a kid and adult to watch him play in the middle to end of his career. I only wish I would have followed golf a little more closely when I was younger.
I got the chance to follow Jack around for 18 holes at a then Senior Tour event in my town. He also played with a couple of other players you may have heard of: Arnold Palmer and Lee Trevino. That was very cool to watch.
Thanks for all the great performances and memories Jack. See you at St. Andrews.
In honor of BogeyMan at Bogey Lounge, I’m going to go off on a “bogey rant.”
If you’ve read my last couple of posts you’d know I’m in a new condo and I’ve gone through the worst hell a person can go through: moving. I was scheduled to have Comcast hook me up today with digital cable and high speed internet. As a subscriber to “other” services, I was looking forward to evaluating Comcast.
As promised, the install guy showed up at 9:30am (while I was hacking my way around a tournament) and installed the proper gear. When I got home at 2:30 my TV was hot but I couldn’t get the high speed internet working.
OK, I’m in my new pad now. Every muscle in my body hurts from moving. My internet and TV are scheduled to be installed tomorrow. I’m able to post because I have found an unsecured wireless connection here. If I sit perfectly at my kitchen table, I get enough signal to surf and check email. I get a better signal when my wife stands on the 3rd tile in on the 5th row of the kitchen floor. I made her stand there for a while 🙂
I have no TV yet, but Jeff Sluman is still leading. Like I said yesterday, that won’t last. Oh and a guy named Tiger is one back. I sure wish I could be watching this instead of reading about it… Yeah yeah I could hook up an antennae but I won’t stoop that low.
Here are some pics from the deck on my new pad. This one is the 17th fairway at River Oaks (their web site is lame):
The tee is to the left. I’ve already shagged two balls on the grass below my place. One Titleist and one “catch & release” ball. I released it back to the middle of the fairway.
This pic is of 17 green:
I’ll be living here for 3-5 months while my new pad is being constructed…
Well. I’ve been away from any media (golf or other) for almost 2 straight days. Has anything new happened since I was away? Is Vijay still #1? Does Tiger still knock em 325 out and 40 right? Has Augusta National announced allowing women members? Have I made a “less than stellar” post which has been critiqued by my buddy The Duke over at The Saguaro Open? Yes? Yes? No? No? Maybe?
Greetings from my new perch, my pal Matt’s milk box. Yes, I’m on my buddy’s front porch, sitting on his milk box again. I did manage to get logged into his wireless network this time.
I’ve been moving all my crap for 3 days now. I filled up 4 (FOUR) 24 foot trucks with crap….er a possessions. I just donated about 40 golf clubs and two carts to the local charity. (Can I deduct full retail on that?). This morning I dumped the last of my worldly possessions into my 10×20 foot storage unit. Then I dropped off my Penske truck at 8am.
Now I’m settling into my new condo. This condo is nice. I’ll post a pic tomorrow from my deck. I can watch all the golfers playing the 17th hole. That may be bad for my game because earlier today I watched what was obviously a 4 man scramble. I watched all 4 players shank their shots into the green.
Apparently nothing “major” in the golf world happening. Sluman has the lead in round one of the memorial eh? Ok. Wonder how long that will last. Made the rounds to my favorite blogs and there is some good stuff out there. Click on my links to the right. Be sure to check out The Sand Trap for Eric’s photos at the Memorial. Very cool.
I’ll be “hooked on net” tomorrow. I’m going from DSL to digital cable. I hear it will be faster. It will be nice to end the milk box sitting. My butt can’t take any more. My reviews other articles will get back on track this weekend!
The setting:
I’ve just sold my house and closed today at 3pm. So you could say I’m homeless. I’ve been packing and purging all my junk since Thursday. I didn’t get to golf at all over the entire Memorial Day weekend which is the first time in 10 years. My golfing buddies kept calling saying they had one spot left for me…bummer.
Today I spent loading heavy furniture, throwing away 5 computers, purging junk and dumping 3/4 of my worldly possessions in a 10×20 foot storage unit. The move finishes tomorrow by 7pm. No golf for over a week now. This must be what it is like for a crack addict to go without his drugs. Pain pain.
I think I broke my toe and I smashed my pinkie. I’ve pulled some kind of muscles in my right shoulder.
My wife shut off our high speed internet connection two days early by mistake. Thanks to my pal Matt, I’m sitting on his milk box on his front porch writing this post. He ran me an ethernet cable out his front door to connect. Our wireless systems are not compatible unfortunately. It is 10:52pm and I have 2 minutes of battery power on my laptop left.
I’ll do anything for my loyal golf readers here!
I hope to get back to my normal posting and reviews by the weekend. If my new temporary pad doesn’t have a net connection, I’ll be back here tomorrow night on my buddie’s porch. My new connection is supposed to be hot by this Saturday.
I’m staying in a condo for 3-4 months while my new house is being built. The location of my new condo? It’s only on the 17th fairway at the course I happen to be league president of!
Now I have 1 minute of battery power left. Good night.
