Carlsbad Confidential shut down by “the man”

It’s official. As of tomorrow (June 15) Carlsbad Confidential will come to an end, and will be redirected to the “people” section of TMAG’s site.

My buddy Jason was starting to get a neat inside golf blog going there, but the corporate lawyers had something else in mind. Jason says his posts there will be basically the same. Time will tell.

The TMAG insider blog will have other people posting inside info there as well, so perhaps this will turn out to be a good thing. I do hope they revamp what they are doing there. Right now it’s just a bunch of ads and promotional paragraphs disguised as a blog entries, with no author names and no comments.
To me what makes a “blog” is the personality of the blogger and his viewpoint. Corporate lawyers will do whatever they can to eliminate that.

Perhaps Hooked On Golf Blog will have a new anonymous contributor who seems to have an inside scoop on the golf equipment world eh? 🙂

UPDATE:

Jason has been kind enough to “clarify” my post on their situation and what they’re doing. So be sure to click on the comment link below for a more clear picture.

Thanks Jason

History in the making

annika05lpgaKeep your eyes open. We’re seeing some major golf history unfold in front of us right now. Annika has just won her 2nd leg of this year’s LPGA grand slam by winning the LPGA Championship. Tiger could win his second leg this week at the US Open, but the odds that Annika gets it are astronomically higher in my book.

I better not forget to mention that Annika won the LPGA for her 3rd time in a row. Mark that down as another of the LPGA records she holds.

Michelle Wie had a good showing by taking 2nd place, 3 strokes back. Nice to see her competing against a field that she should compete against. The PGA tour can come, but Michelle needs to prove herself in some LPGA events first.

Sergio surges

garcia05boozallenI’m sure my pals at TaylorMade are very happy now that Sergio has broken the ice with his first win this year at the Booz Allen Classic. This pic is great with that
r7 Quad driver
starring you right in the face. Sergio dropped a 65 on the field to claim the victory by 2 shots.

I was wondering about Sergio earlier this year when he lost the sizable lead to Vijay at Wachovia. He was nervous trying to hold on to the lead. But this type of win where he’s coming from behind seems to fit his fiery personality.

Apparently Tom Kite’s Viagra didn’t last quite long enough and he faded down the leaderboard with a 74. That would have been fun to see a 55 year old beat the young guns. If it was a Champions event he might have since he had the lead after 3 days.

World’s worst golf swing contest

After a day without a post, I’m in the zone right now. I’m just going with it.

Courtesy of a link from my pals at ShotTalk, I found this gem: The world’s worst golf swing contest.

#6 is pretty good. He holds the club like a hockey stick. But #8 is the best. The guy sets up with the ball completely outside his front foot. Then just before he hits it, he shimmies even farther from the ball… Classic.

Whatever the market will bear

In my recent big garage sale I had about 30 boxes of Nike balls, brand new. Don’t ask me where I got them… I had the DD (David Duval), the TW (the ball before Tiger Woods started playing the One), and the regular Tour Accuracy.

The current garage sale market price for these Nike golf balls?

$5.00/dozen

Whatever the market will bear.
