I was browsing asiantour.com (no I don’t get there too often) and found a story about an 878 yard hole.

PAR 6 HOLE TO MAKE DEBUT AT DOUBLE A INTERNATIONAL OPEN
Hole 4, Par 6, 878 Yds at the St Andrews Hill (2000) Golf Club, Rayong Thailand.Rayong, Thailand, November 1: A monstrous 878-yard, par six hole will make a daunting debut on the Asian Tour at this week’s inaugural US$300,000 Double A International Open.

I can see it now: “Hey Bob, nice eagle 4!”

A thought: we’re only 122 yards from seeing a 1000 yard hole…

Near Ace

Here’s the setup:

I’ve battled this scratch player for 16 holes. I birdie 17 to go 1 up. He presses me on the 18th tee, which is a par 3. Yes, a par 3 finishing hole. This green is very hard to hit and has a huge tier in it which guarantees a 3 putt if you’re on the wrong tier.

With the press on my opponent knocks a beautiful tee shot to about one inch from the hole. He wins the press, we tie the original bet. He also wins the “rabbit” and the “squirrel” in our 8 man group which gets him even more dough. (I’ll cover the animals some other time).

I lost dough but it was still beautiful to watch.

Ok fellow golf addicts, forum users and friends I need your help. I’ve had this request posted over on my golf forum for a few days but I’m putting it here too.

I’d like to to a year ending article for Hooked On Golf Blog which sums up the biggest stories of 2005. Though “top 10” lists make me gag, let’s call it the top stories of the year.

I’ll start with a few here and please help me out with others you can think of:

In no particular order

–Tiger wins 2 majors
–Tiger player of the year and money list winner
–Michelle Wie Turns Pro
–Daly comeback
–ErKnee Els knee injury
–Duval melt down
–Jason Gore
–Phil wins 2nd major
–Mr Clutch: Chris DiMarco (even though he hasn’t WON a tournament) at the president’s cup and runner up finishes.
–The distance debate. Debates over scaling back the golf ball
–Michelle Wie DQ
–Michael Campbell comeback/wins US Open
–Sean and Mark O’Hair saga
–Annika dominates the LPGA Tour
–Paula Creamer makes splash on LPGA Tour
–Jack plays last Masters and last Open (of which I have his autograph on BOTH flags!)
–On a personal note: I MET JACK, that would be my personal #1 event of 2005
–2005: the year of weather delays

Looks like Casey Martin may be done

Casey Martin, the disabled golfer who sued the PGA a few years ago for the right to ride a golf cart, failed to qualify for the PGA Tour at Q-School. He tied for 46th and missed out by 7 shots. Sounds like he’s calling it a career:

“I’ve pretty much made it clear that this would be my last Q-School. I’m not saying I’ll never compete again, but I don’t anticipate it being my main thing.”

Head over to GolfBlogger and read his commentary about this. It’s worth a read.

This Week On Tour

This is the final week of the PGA Tour season. The Champions Tour and the Nationwide Tour are already done for the year. The LPGA and European Tours still have some events and there are some unofficial PGA events between now and the 2006 season.

This week you can catch the PGA Tour TWICE due to the fact that the Southern Farm Bureau Classic is being played along with the Tour Championship. This is due to the tournament being rescheduled because of Hurricane Katrina. Live it up!

In the left sidebar here I’ve kept a “This Week On Tour” schedule going all year long. In that section I have had all the major tours listed with TV coverage as best as I could get it. I hope this feature has been useful to you over the past year. Please comment if you have found it useful. Since the season ends this week, I’m going to get a break from updating this feature until 2006 and won’t be updating any data there.
