12:31PM ET: The leaders don’t tee off for a while. Zach Johnson has birdied two of the first three holes to bring it back to even par for the tournament. Geoff Ogilvy and Boo Weekly are -1 on their rounds so far and +1 total.
2:28: Tiger Woods birdied #2 and is now at -2, six shots back. Zach Johnson shot -4 on the front to reach -2 for the tournament.
3:30: Man I need some psychological help. I had tears gushing out of my eyes when the network broadcast started. Anyone have a tissue? Tiger has had a couple more good birdie opportunities but hasn’t made a putt.
3:45: Phil Michelson had a tap in birdie on #2 which put him at -6. Goosen is at -4 after five holes. Furyk is going the wrong direction, having dropped two shots to +1 after seven.
3pmET: Tiger (image right: Tiger tees off on #13) has made par on the first 10 holes. He never usually lights it up in the first round of The Masters anyway so he’s right where he wants to be.
Phil Mickelson birdied the first hole.
Zach Johnson almost flew his tee shot in the hole on the par-3 12th. He had about a 3-4 inch birdie putt.
I think I’ll continue blogging in this post now because I’m making too many small blogs…
3:15: Zach Johnson leads by two shots at -4 with another birdie at 13. Tiger pars 12 for his 12th par in a row. Phil birdies #2 and starts out this Masters birdie-birdie.
3:35: Tiger chunked a pitch shot from the back of #13 green which rolled back off the green. He then putted pretty far past the hole and is going to have a long 12 foot putt to save par. NO. Tiger BOGEYS the par-5 13th. 12 pars and one bogey for Tiger.
I’m watching holes 15 & 16 LIVE at Masters.org. Ian Poulter just hit a perfect shot and made an ACE at #16! Wow. He’s now atop the leaderboard at -3.
Mark O’Meara just birdied 16. He’s on FIRE on the back with four birdies so far.
The Hooked On Golf Blog voters, a.k.a. “The Pundits,” have spoken. It was a tight poll but the largest percentage of readers think Tiger will win four majors this year. As great as Tiger is, I think he won’t. It’s just too difficult and ONE swing in the U.S. OPEN or even a tough Masters (like when he broke his club last year on #11) can cost a victory.
