mastersRory McIlroy ends the round with a four shot lead at -12. He’s paired with the amazing Angel Cabrera, who only seems to play well in majors.

Rory McIlroy

Can McIlroy hold on to his 4 shot lead?

McIlroy hit some amazing shots on Saturday. His approach to 15 was a nicely shaped long iron which had to draw around the trees left. Mishit that shot and it is a watery grave. Net result is a birdie.

The very long downhill birdie putt McIlroy made on 17 was amazing. But he wouldn’t have even had the opportunity if he hadn’t hit another perfectly shaped draw around the trees on the left side of the fairway for his 2nd shot.

McIlroy’s putting has been good and great, but his ball striking is what has gotten him to this point. The tournament is his to win. Even shooting 2-3 under today should put it out of reach for just about anyone, unless we see a course record or close to it.

Group at -8

So many other players to comment about, but my brain is Masters fried. I really like Cabrera and he could be a threat. All McIlroy has to do is shoot a 74 to a Cabrera (or any other player at -8 like Schwartzel, Day, Choi) 70 and we have a playoff.

I’ll post a short Tiger post tomorrow morning. But let’s just say he is back… way back.
