Justin Rose missed a birdie to win the match but Zach Johnson still had to make a par putt from about 10 feet to extend the match to the 18th hole.  No go.  Justin Rose beats Zack and my final picks total is 22/32.

7:45PM ET

Justin Rose is still 1up, both players are in the fairway at the par-4 17th.

7:29PM ET

The only match left is Zach Johnson vs Justin Rose.  My pick is Zach and if he wins I’ll be 23/32.

The match is currently through 15 holes and Justin Rose is 1up.  Go Zach!

7:15PM ET

Tiger’s former coach Hank Haney tweets this:

“For all the talk of Tiger’s poor driving the last 6 years I have never seen him drive it out of play with a match or tournament on the line.”

I tweet this back to Hank:

Wasn’t that a 3-metal too, to keep it in play?

Hank tweets back to me:

@HOGGOLFBLOG it was a 3 wood but when u hit it 285 it isn’t automatic at all

6:56PM ET

Tiger Woods loses on the 1st extra hole to Bjorn:

“Pissed.  I had the momentum going into the 19th hole and I blew it.” ~Tiger Woods, after being asked by Roger Maltbe where he is with the process of his game.

6:48PM ET

Tiger tried to hit out of serious bushes and cacti, didn’t get it back to green grass.  He had to chip onto the fairway.  he can only hope to tie with a bogey.  Looks like he scratched the hell out of his arm.

#1 Lee Westwood beats Henrik Stenson 3&2.

6:41PM ET

Tiger Woods blew his tee shot into the cactus right of the first playoff hole.  He’s in serious trouble.

They’re covering Westwood a bit more, showing him standing there shivering in the desert.

6:37PM ET

With a mid-length birdie putt to extend the match, Tiger Woods knocks it straight in.  Extra holes in the Bjorn/Woods match.  First “Tiger like” putt I’ve seen in a while.

Nick Watney crushed Anthony Kim 5&4.

6:30PM ET

Geoff Ogilvy wins 4&3 over Padraig Harrington.

Tiger Woods and Thomas Bjorn are both in the fairway on #18.

6:25PM ET

Tiger had a chance to win a hole with a birdie on 17, but missed left.  He’s one down with one to play.  Tiger is not making the types of putts he used to always make.

Martin Kaymer closed out Korea’s Seung-yul Noh on the 12th hole 7&6.  That is a major butt whooping, even though he only shot even par.

Rickie Fowler defeated Peter Hanson 1up.

6:15PM ET

Thomas Bjorn conceded a moderately long putt over three feet to Tiger, who isn’t exactly lighting it up.  That could be a mistake.  Bjorn is 1up after 16.

Martin Kaymer (first time seeing him on the TV coverage) is 7up over Korea’s Seung-yul Noh through 11 holes.

6:03PM ET

Both Tiger and Bjorn almost drove the green at the 14th.  Bjorn made birdie and TW pulled his birdie putt after a mediocre chip.  Bjorn goes 1up.

Kuchar decided to put their 22 hole match to an end and finally made a putt to defeat Hansen.

“I love the game of golf but it is one crazy game.  I had nine lives out there today.” ~Matt Kuchar

The first coverage I’ve seen of Lee Westwood was a replay of him missing a putt to lose a hole.

5:53PM ET

Anders Hansen had his hat off on the 21st hole, ready to congratulate Matt Kuchar as he stood over a short putt to win.  Kuchar pulled it!  Wow.  They’re off to the 22nd hole.  Nobody wants to win this one.  Putting in this match has been pretty bad.

5:48PM ET

Dustin Johnson was defeated by Mark Wilson in 19 holes.  Another of my “upset specials” comes true.

5:40PM ET

Hunter Mahan closed out Sean O’Hair 4&3.

Thomas Bjorn won the 13th hole over Tiger Woods, bringing the match to all square.

5:31PM ET

The broadcast has been going for hours today.  The #1 ranked player in the world Lee Westwood has played nine holes.  At least that is what I heard.  Golf Channel hasn’t shown one shot, unless it was when I was in the bathroom.  Glad Golf Channel has “nearly 200 crew members, 34 cameras and more than 75,000 feet of cable here in the desert.”

5:14PM ET

Tiger Woods won the 11th hole to go 1up.  He flared his tee shot on the par-3 12th into the stands right.  Bjorn is on the green.  Tiger’s swing is very inconsistent to say the least.

Charl Schwartzel defeats Ryo Ishikawa on the 20th hole.

5:12PM ET

Tiger Woods won the 9th and 10th holes to get his match with Thomas Bjorn back to square.  They’re on the 11th now.

Phil Mickelson is destroying Brandon Jones, 5up through 12 holes.  Correction, Phil has won the match on the 13th hole.

Bubba Watson wins 3&2 over Bill Haas.

Matt Kuchar is one down with one hole to go to Anders Hansen.

4:31PM ET

Paul Casey defeated Richard Green on the 19th hole (not in the clubhouse).

Thomas Bjorn made birdie on the 8th hole, going 2up over Tiger Woods.  Tiger had a short birdie putt, but the ball hopped up in the air shortly off the putter face and went off line, missing the hole.

Ben Crane defeats Adam Scott (who is now wielding a super big long putter) 4&2.

3:40PM-4:19PM ET

Steve Stricker loses to 17 year old Matteo Manassero, 2&1.  Tough present for Steve Stricker on his birthday.

Tiger Woods and Thomas Bjorn are fighting it out.  Bjorn was 2up after five holes and is now 1up after seven holes.  Both Tiger and Bjorn made birdie on #7.

Rory McIlroy wins 4&2 over Jonathan Byrd.

3:39PM ET

14 seed Ryan Palmer knocks out Jim Furyk on the 18th hole.  Fairly big upset here.

3:33PM ET

Though he made birdie on the 2nd hole, TW is hacking it all over the place on #3.  After going in the lake he blew his 3rd shot over the green and was chipping for bogey.  Thomas Bjorn goes 1up again, after three holes.

3:28PM ET

OMG.  Tiger Woods just hit his tee shot on the par-3 3rd hole into the middle of a lake.  Don’t think he’ll get to that one.  It is way too far for even the longest ball retrievers.  Mark TW down for a “lake in regulation.”

Miguel Angel Jimenez “The Mechanic” won 2&1 over Yuta Ikeda.

3:21PM ET

Furyk is one down with one to play against Ryan Palmer.

Tiger Woods made birdie on #2 to bring his match back to all square with Thomas Bjorn.

J.B. Holmes defeated Camilo Villegas 4&2, nice for being an alternate who just barely flew into town.

Phil Mickelson is 2up through five holes over Brendan Jones.

Ross Fisher defeated Robert Allenby 4&3.

Y.E. Yang defeated Alvaro Quiros in 20 holes.

3:11PM ET

Graeme McDowell has beaten Heath Slocum 4&3.

3:05PM ET

Tiger Woods airmailed his approach on #1 to a near impossible up-and-down location, made bogey on the first hole and disgustedly slapped his ball away.  Thomas Bjorn is now 1up after the first hole.  Put a fork in Tiger now?  It is early I know…

Ernie Els won his match over Jeff Overton in extra holes.

2:45PM ET

Tiger Woods’ match has been pushed back more than 30 minutes due to matches going into extra holes, which have priority over groups starting out on the first hole.

Ernie Els and Jeff Overton are now in extra holes.

Eduardo Molinari has just defeated Martin Laird 3&2.

2:33PM ET

Steward Cink’s birdie on the 19th hole sends Ian Poulter home.  The twittering between Cink and Poulter should be interesting.  And, I must point out that Cink’s victory was one of my predictions…

“Am I disappointed  I’m ***** pissed, does that help? I had my chances to shut him out and didn’t. I’m pissed at myself. I didn’t do my job today.” ~Ian Poulter

2:25PM ET

Alvaro Quiros made a clutch birdie on #18 to send it into OT with Y.E. Yang.  The 2nd OT match is about to begin.

Cink’s approach on the 1st playoff hole from 174 nearly dropped in.  He’s got a very short birdie.  Poults needs to stick it close and doesn’t.   Advantage Cink.

2:15PM ET

Luke Donald has dispatched Charlie Hoffman in a hurry with a crushing 6 and 5 win.  The Donald/Hoffman match was even more lopsided than the final result indicated.

The Stewart Cink / Ian Poulter match (which I predicted Cink the winner) is just going to the 19th hole.
