During the HP Byron Nelson Classic last year I took the opportunity to follow Jordan Spieth. At that time, Spieth was an amateur from Texas who was sure to be on the PGA Tour in four years. Well, make that two years. He’s turning pro.
Spieth’s amateur career was very impressive. Here are a few of his accomplishments:
The future is bright for this one. It will be fun to watch. The question will no doubt be whether or not turning pro at this point is a wise idea. Time will tell.
This article on ESPN.com goes into detail about a federal law suit filed by Oakley in Santa Ana, California. McIory’s contract is up with Oakley on 12/31/12, but they apparently have right of first refusal. This means Oakley would have the right to match an offer, which would end up being 30% of the rumored $20-25 million per year Nike inked with McIlory. They apparently were not given the opportunity to match.
This will be interesting to follow to say the least.
Yesterday we could see green grass here in Salt Lake, though it was quite cold. This morning at 7:30am this is the view I had from the front porch of HOG World Headquarters:
Time to get the skis out, or head south to play golf.
I can’t wait to test out the Swing Tip swing analysis system which arrived recently. This system is comprised of two basic parts. The first part is a bluetooth sensor which attaches to a golf club. The 2nd is iOS or Android based software which receives the data and produces information about the swing, swing plane, club head speed, club face angle, impact zone and swing tempo. The data is displayed on the phone, iPad, tablet or computer screen.
This would likely be a good golf Christmas gift, but I’ve already posted my two Christmas golf gift guides: Golf Gifts Under $30 and Golf Gifts Under $1,000,000.
It is really cold here so I may have to do some of my testing in the garage or the basement. The “highs” are in the 40’s and the temp is dropping. Stay tuned.
