I’ve just finished uploading a batch of photos from Black Lake Golf Club in Onaway, (northern) Michigan. Black Lake is owned by the UAW and was designed by Rees Jones. I must say this is possibly the most well maintained course I’ve played ALL year. And that is saying a lot.
Black Lake is a fantastic track, very beautiful, challenging and yet playable. There are five sets of tees, the tips measuring out at 7,046 yards with a rating of 74.4 and slope of 138.
Thanks to Black Lake for hosting me. Can’t wait to get back there. For more photos click the images in this post or this link to the Hooked On Golf Blog Black Lake image gallery.
I had a fantastic day up here in northern Michigan at Black Lake Golf Club. See the next post for my photos and comments. Part of what made the day special is that I finally had the chance to meet and play golf with a fellow golf blogger who I’ve known digitally and respected greatly almost NINE years, but never met in person. John Retzer from GolfBlogger.com and I teed it up today and had a friendly match in the northern Michigan version of the Battle of the Golf Blogs. As I’ve said many times, the best part of running this site has been the terrific friends I’ve met.
Please visit John’s great web site. John is a pioneer in this sphere. Golf Blogger has been a rock solid golf blog since the beginning when golf blogs where original and cool, and when there were only 4-5 in existence, not the 100’s there are now.
Let the playoffs begin. This week the PGA Tour is in New York at the famous (or infamous) Beth Page Black course, home of the 2002 and 2009 U.S. Opens. The Barclays is round one of the FedEx Cup Playoffs.
The top 125 on the tour in FedEx Cup points are eligible to compete, and the majority of those top 125 will be in action. The featured grouping this week is a juicy one, with Rory McIlory and Tiger Woods paired up for the first two days. Boy will the galleries be big for this one. Set your DVR, schedule below:

This week’s posts are mostly going to be a few photo highlights as my writing schedule while on the road is very limited (as is the internet connection).
Today I experienced two courses at Treetops here in Gaylord, Michigan. Early this morning was “3Tops,” which is the par-3 track at Treetops. I could play this course every day and never get bored. The elevation changes are insane. Here’s one photo from this morning, and I’ll be posting the rest toward the end of the week.
After the 3Tops round was 18 on the Tom Fazio designed course at Treetops here in northern Michigan, the “Fazio” course. Once again, more photos to be posted later this week.
It is very late and I’m mega-tired. So I can’t spend the time it is going to take to process the billions of photos I took today during my 36 hole marathon day of golf at Black Forest and Treetops Signature course here in Gaylord, Michigan. For now here are a couple of highlights.
