I’m happy to have finally added a gallery of photos of Soldier Hollow Golf Course in Midway, Utah. Midway, Utah is about a 15-20 minute drive from Park City, and around a 45 minute drive from Salt Lake City.

Soldier Hollow is the host of this week’s 87th United States Golf Association Amateur Public Links Championship. This “mountain links” course is actually a 36 hole facility but for the USGA Public Links Championship holes from both courses are used. The courses are the “Gold” and “Silver” courses, in honor of the 2002 Winter Olympic Games, part of which took place right on property at Solder Hollow Resort. On the 17th tee yesterday at the United States Golf Association’s Public Links Championship I overheard a player talking about his leg cramps. The course is extremely hilly. I know because I’ve been walking up and down it myself. The elevation change at Soldier Hollow makes Augusta National look like a flat Florida course.
The player was dying for a beverage and came up with a very descriptive quote for how thirsty he was:
“If I had it, I’d drink hot mustard right now.”

Indeed conditions are tough here. The sign above shows the temp at 108 on the 18th tee at 5PM. I suspect that temp is a little on the high side, but even if it is off by 5-10 degrees it is still damn hot.
Ironic
At the end of the day yesterday I was heading into the media center to post some photos and do some writing. I caught this ironic combination of sign and temperature gauge on the wall. The temperature had dropped to a balmy 93 at around 6PM. (more…)
Greetings from beautiful Midway, Utah and Soldier Hollow Golf Course. I’ve been on the course up here at the 87th USGA Public Links Championship, shooting some photos of many players and the golf course. A quick post before I down some Raisin Bran, grab my laptop and Nikon and head out the door. I’m heading up to the 1st round of the 87th U.S. Amateur Publinks, being contested about a 40 minute drive from HOG World Headquarters in Midway, Utah. Midway is a beautiful town, just a few minutes from Park City. The area is full of amazing golf courses.
The USGA has chosen Utah as its location bringing for the first time ever a United States Golf Association championship to my home state.
The host course is called Soldier Hollow, a links style track located on a mountain side. I’ll be shooting plenty of photos of the players and the course so stay tuned.
