Today is The Golden Bear’s birthday. Jack Nicklaus is now an even par 72.
Jack Nicklaus is my all time favorite professional golfer. Way to go out on a limb and be different eh? I grew up watching Jack and was amazed with his final major victory when he won the 1986 Masters at the age of 46. I had the pleasure of watching Jack play many times, which was thrilling. Perhaps the best pairing I saw was a then Senior Tour event with Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Lee Trevino. I followed that group for 18 holes. Needless to say, Jack and Arnie didn’t get much in word wise.
I had the pleasure of meeting Jack a few years ago (and about 40 pounds ago as you can see from the picture). Jack was very nice to talk to and very engaging to me and my son, which has left a lasting positive impression. I was thrilled to have Jack autograph a couple of the flags in my golf collection, the 2005 Masters flag (his last Masters) and my 2005 British Open flag (his last British and last major). Interestingly enough, Tiger Woods won both of those majors that year. Those are probably my two most prized golf possessions and hell no, they won’t be on ebay.
Jack Nicklaus Interview Pending
I’ve been waiting to hear back on an interview with Jack for HOG here, but I’m sure the man is busy. Hopefully that will come through one of these days.
