If you are a pro golfer on tour and your last name starts with a “W,” you had a great chance of winning this past weekend. Both Bubba Watson and Lee Westwood won this week. You may also have had a great chance if you play Ping golf clubs.
Bubba Watson
No secret that I’m a big fan of Bubba Watson. This self taught, coach free player with the unorthodox swing has notched three wins on Tour in less than a year.
Following the two hole playoff yesterday at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, Bubba has moved to #10 in the world and #1 in the 2011 FedEx Cup standings.
I know Lee Westwood is ranked #1 again, but it may be time to start the “best current player without a major” discussion with Bubba as the subject. No doubt Watson is at least the best player from the USA right now.
Tour entertaining without Phil Mickelson or Tiger Woods
The playoff between Bubba and Webb Simpson was fun to watch and the Tour is continuing the high entertainment value with the 2nd consecutive week with a playoff. The last two weeks have been fun, entertaining and exciting with the tournaments coming down to final shots, playoffs etc. All of this without Tiger Woods or Phil Mickelson in the field.
Lee Westwood
Lee Westwood is back at world ranking #1 and has now won two weeks in a row, though not on US soil or on the PGA Tour. Westwood won the Ballantine’s Championship in South Korea this week following the last week’s win in Indonesia.
Hell of a week for PING Golf
Both Bubba Watson and Lee Westwood play Ping gear. On top of that, Maria Hhorth won on the LPGA Tour in Alabama at the Avnet LPGA Classic. She’s a Ping player too.
Maybe the reason I didn’t win on tour last week is because I don’t have any Ping gear in my bag right now…
Great win for Bubba. He is incredibly entertaining to watch and seems like a real class act and down to earth type character. Happy to see him in contention so often. I can’t help but wonder if he has a good shot at cogressional. I will be there to cheer him on! Can’t wait!
