Thanks for the submissions, comments, Tweets, mentions etc. The Pebble Beach ticket giveaway is now closed.
I’ve awarded the tickets to the AT&T Pro-Am at Pebble Beach and they’ve been shipped overnight to the winner.
Dubai Desert Classic Round One
Tiger Woods had a black shirt with white strips. Rory McIlroy had one too. A few other players had the same apparel theme going. They must have coordinated that in advance.
McIlroy Leads – Woods six back
Tiger however, didn’t get the memo from Rory on what score to shoot in round one. Rory Shot a 65 (-7) to take the lead, and Tiger had to make an impressive eagle on the final hole to shot a 71 (-1).
I’m trying to see what is different in Tiger’s swing and the most noticeable thing I’m seeing, is that his head is looking up at the shot sooner than before. It isn’t quite a David Duval or Annika Sorenstam look, but it is going up quickly.
Tiger looked up very quickly on I believe the 16th hole. Photographers perched about 20 feet above the tee were clicking away in his back swing. Tiger let go of his club with one hand and yelled up at them, “come on guys, not in my swing.” Interestingly enough, his tee shot hit the middle of the fairway.
#1 and #2
World #1 and #2 Lee Westwood and Martin Kaymer both shot 69 (-3) in round one.
No fun Tweets from Westwood yet
Westwood’s twitter is quiet, except for a note that he’s going to some kind of race. Looks like a horse race. Pouler hasn’t razzed Tiger yet today either, just solicitations to buy his apparel.
I’ve featured the EEZ Read here a few times. This product is exactly the same concept as that one, with a different package.
The Sure Putt is a green reader with a bubble level inside. Place the unit in your line on the green and you can see how much break there is. To get better reads, place the unit in multiple locations of the putt line.
The construction of this unit is nice. The casing is aluminum and the text is milled. I’d say that whoever is doing their milling should get a raise because it is so good.
The unit could also be used as a large ball marker I suppose.
Note, this reader is not legal to use in tournament play or stipulated rounds.
When most golf groups are trying to determine who has the honor on the first tee, they throw a tee on the ground and whoever the tee is pointing toward has the honor. Throw it a 2nd time to pick the 2nd player and so on.
If you want a more “elegant” way of accomplishing the same thing, and only having to do it once rather than throwing the tee several times, check out the Starter Coin.
Along with being an honor “decider” (thanks Bush), the unit can be used as a large ball marker, or a smaller magnetic ball marker inside the coin can be used.
Phrases
There are a few optional phrases you can choose, like “that’s how I roll” and “no putts, no glory.”
$12 shipped
At $12 shipped, this isn’t exactly an inexpensive “decider” when a simple golf tee could do the same thing, but the construction and look of the coin is nice.
I’ve confirmed four sponsors for this year’s fantasy golf league and I’m working on more. Currently we have Bridgestone Golf, FootJoy, Frogger Golf and Tattoo Golf signed up to provide prizes. I’m working on more. If you have a golf company and would like to have a few million page views of your logo and links this year, here’s your chance. Let me know.
This league’s prizes will be awarded for weekly winners as well as each of the five segments of the season. Plus we’ll have a big grand prize!
