I’ve had a solid sponsor here on Hooked On Golf Blog and recently on The Golf Space place some good ads. They’ve been sponsoring HOG for close to a year now. This sponsor happens to have a channel on TV about golf. You may have heard of them.
Thanks to said sponsor’s commitment and subsequent financial (up front) investment, I’ve just secured a new and bigger dedicated server and paid for a whole year of service! This is huge and a great step in expanding the TGS golf web empire.
The new server, which currently has a ghost version of HOG/TGS and a few other of my sites, is running and working great. I’m just finishing the migration and I’ll be switching over to it soon.
More horsepower
The new server is quite an upgrade from the old dedicated server. First, I can host up to 100 web sites with the current setup, expandable to unlimited. That isn’t a huge deal, except for the fact that I already had 28 of the previously allowed 30 in the old server.
The new server is also a quad processor, in which each of the four cores are faster than the one core in the old server. In other words, this baby will crunch numbers and spit out pages and results way faster.
The new server has more ram, by another 33% which helps. Also it has a much higher throughput or connection to Al Gore’s interweb.
The new experience should be much much faster, and I can host more clients and golf sites.
Stay tuned for the switch.. things may get rocky for a day or two.
Anyone in Utah or close enough to come here for a golf tournament Thursday, I’m calling you out right now! My good friend, severely wounded Iraq war veteran and golf buddy Bryant Jacobs is hosting a charity golf tournament. This tournament is in association with Homes For Our Troops, an organization which builds homes for injured veterans at no cost to the vet. The organization provided my buddy Bryant a beautiful, handicap accessible home and simply handed him the key. That is in credible. Now Bryant is turning the tables and helping Homes For Our Troops raise money to provide the same great service to other wounded veterans. He’s playing it forward so to speak.
My Group
My foursome will include the Director of Golf at River Oaks and my good friend Guy Lester and two wounded war veterans. We’re going to be tough to beat!

For my story on my pal Bryant, you can find it at The Golf Space or Hooked On Golf Blog.
There’s also a recent feature on Bryant and the tournament in the Salt Lake Tribune.
Prior to 2010, a total of THREE 59’s had been shot on the PGA Tour, ever:
Al Geiberger: 1977 Memphis Classic
David Duval: 1999 Bob Hope
Chip Beck: 1991 Las Vegas Invitational
Today the 2nd 59 of this season was recorded in grand fashion, as Stuart Appleby surged for a victory at the Old White course and the new tour event, the Greenbriar Classic. The first 59 of this season was by Paul Goydos at the John Deere.
Is this just random happenstance, or do they need to set up the courses a little tougher for these pros? The gear has been limited now for a couple of years, ball technology and driver CC’s limited..
I’m very happy for Stuart Appleby and his amazing final round 59 at the Old White course, Greenbriar Classic. Look at this series of scores: 66, 68, 65, 59. That is super sub par. Perhaps next year they’ll have to set up Old White a little tougher?
Good to see Apples in the win column again
I was getting used to Appleby starting out the year with a victory in week #1 in Hawaii, and having not done that for a few years must have thrown his body clock off or something. The victory couldn’t happen to a cooler cat. Stuart is liked across the board.
Can I lay a bet down in Vegas now on Appleby winning in week #1 of the 2011 PGA Tour season?
