The snow has melted enough for my home course to open holes 2-11. Today, though it was 33 degrees, I played golf. I had on a shirt, sweater, sweatshirt, lined windbreaker hoodie, levis, fleece hat, lined rain pants and two pairs of gloves.
With my propane golf heater in tow, I started on #4 making a bunch of bogeys. It is hard to swing with 57 articles of clothing on and frozen hands. I played #8 twice, making my first two pars of the day. The 2nd par on #8 my ball was in the greenside bunker buried in snow. I blasted out of the “snow trap” to about 15 feet and made a sand save for par.
I played #11 twice too, getting up and down out of a plugged lie in the sand. So today I was 2/2 in sand saves. I had 5 bogeys and 6 pars which is fine for 12/21 of any year in this area…
Hitting the greens in these conditions isn’t a great idea. They’re frozen. I had a gap wedge hit next to the flag on the green, bounce 30 feet in the air and fly over the green. You need to hit short of the green and bounce it up on the ice.
The forecast for tonight is….. snow.
