Stupid press questions in the post round interviews are great. But what is even better is when the player is quick enough to come back with an answer that accentuates the stupidity of the question.
Case in point: After losing his match and getting knocked out of last week’s Accenture Match Play Phil Mickelson was asked by a reporter “what happened out there?” Phil replied “I got beat.”
But my favorite stupid press question almost always pops up is when they interview Tiger before a tournament:
Press: “Tiger, do you feel confident coming into this week’s tournament?”
My dream Tiger answer: “I should feel confident coming into this week, being the #1 golfer in the world. I should feel confident coming into this week since I’ve won 10 majors and dozens of other tournaments. I should feel confident since I have enough dough in the bank to last me for hundreds of years and I’m not worried about keeping my card. But honestly, I’m scared to death. I’m absolutely frightened to even pick up a club. I’m in absolute fear. I don’t sleep at night for fear that I may miss a one foot putt. I fear that one day I may pick up my driver and have absolutely no idea how to swing it. In short, no, I have no confidence coming into this week.”
