After some extreme pain in my pectoral region following several snowboarding crashes, I got checked out by the doc.
I feared that I’d cracked or broken ribs and that I was looking at 12 weeks of recovery (and 12 weeks without swinging a golf club). Fortunately I “sprained” the area connecting rib bone and rib cartilage. Recovery time is approximately three weeks.
You learn something new every day. I didn’t know that the rib area between your sternum and your pectoral is actually cartilage and not really bone.
I’m very happy and thankful the injury isn’t as bad as I’d thought it was. The pain certainly feels that bad 🙁 I’m glad I’ll only have to wait about 3 weeks to swing a club and not several months.
Good luck on your recovery. At least you picked a good time for a golfer to be injured. Let’s get out and play a few holes when you get better.
Yes, very good news indeed. Broken ribs are definitely not something you’d want to deal with. Hey at least it’s the winter. It’ll probably snow a ton in January and you won’t be able to golf anyway.
Happy new year and I hope you have a speedy recovery.
I had that problem once and I don’t believe a broken rib can be any more painful that your injury.
Thanks Luke. Yep the weather is turning ugly now. Beginner thanks too.
Dave: How long until you were good to swing a club? I’ve never heard of this type of injury before…
I had trouble for a good 5 weeks but I don’t do well with pain.
Here’s wishing you a full recovery.
Nothing more frustrating than not being able to play golf!
Amen to that Cal!
5 weeks. Huh. Well I guess it’s ok if it does snow here then. But I may end up in Orlando in about 4 weeks so I hope it’s ok by then.
