Nice to have my personal medical issues here for thousands of people per day to see….
Anyway, I don’t have a hernia yet. I have the beginnings of one. I had the really fun “turn your head and cough” exam today… Lots o’ fun. The least the doc could have done was give me a cigarette when he was done. “Was it as good for you as it was for me?”
Turns out a hernia is where your intestine goes through a hole in your muscle tissue and actually sticks out in your….uh… family jewels area. I don’t have this but I do have a weakening of the initial area and if I do any more lifting I WILL have a full blown hernia.
Prognosis
Doc says if I cough or sneeze I need to support the area with my hand. He says if I take it easy for a couple of weeks with no heavy lifting it will heal. He also said that “pushing” is the cause and as long as I don’t “bear down” I can do whatever I want, including GOLF. Whew!
Well, that’s good news. I can’t begin to tell you what it’s like trying to make something happen while sitting upon the throne without “pushing” or “bearing down” a little.
And the cough test… once your Doc suspects a hernia, you get to go to the specialist and do it all over again. What a joy :/

Had one myself a few years back. Had it cut on in an outpatient procedure. No problem, but it does keep you out of the saddle for a few weeks
Unfortunately for you, “no heavy lifting” is a problem, isn’t it?
😉
as long as I don’t “bear downâ€
Weren’t planning on giving birth in the next couple of weeks were you? 🙂
I was so happy about being able to play I took the afternoon off and played 27…
Yeah…”bearing down” sounds funny. I do feel like I’ve given birth before….
I had to do the cough test once a year, 8 straight years. Damn mandatory physicals. I also had to have some one watch me go to the bathroom in a cup twice a year in college. Look at my arms, dude, I’m not the guy juicin’.
Glad to hear you don’t have to go under the knife. My dad had a “sports hernia” a few years back. Cost him some good money sitting out.

Great news, Tony. Be sure to follow Doc’s advice!
