Friday’s Masters rounds are all complete now.
McIlroy
1st round leader Rory McIlroy held on to his lead, which is still two shots. McIlroy’s 69 featured a solid front nine and some sketchy putting on the back. I’m really liking Rory’s composure, and his balance in his swing is perfect. Love watching this player.
Day
Jason Day stole the show, at least for a while, with his round of 64. His -8 round put him at -8 and solo 2nd two behind McIlroy. Let the Day jokes begin. Guess he had a great Day on the course…
Day and McIlroy will be grouped together again, and may feed off of each other.
Woods
Tiger Woods may really be “back” based on today’s round. The 66 featured some great iron shots and putting reminiscent of the Tiger of old. This round was the first round in a long time where Tiger’s swing didn’t look like an unfolding lawn chair. The weekend and pressure associated with winning a major on a course which requires such precision will be the barometer.
Choi
K.J. Choi stayed steady and is tied with Tiger Woods for 3rd place. Choi and Tiger will be playing together in the 3rd round.
Quiros
Alvaro Quiros did reach his primary goal for Friday, making the cut. He couldn’t quite follow up the smoking hot round of 65 yesterday today. But the 73 was good enough to keep him way under the cut line, tied for 5th with Geoff Ogilvy.
Ogilvy
If Ogilvy could figure out the par-5’s at Augusta National, he may win a Masters or two.
Freddy
Fred Couples seems to find the fountain of youth when he plays in the Masters. His round of 68 is quite a feat for a 51 year old. Freddy comes into Saturday’s round tied for 7th with Ricky Barnes, Lee Westwood, Yong-Eun Yang and Rickie Fowler. Many are on the Freddy bandwagon as am I. Just hope the back holds out.
The Not So Good
Some big names missed the cut. Refer to the HOG Masters round two leader board post for all the details.
The most surprising to many people is Martin Kaymer, world #1. Having missed the cut in his first three cuts, it wasn’t a surprise to me he missed his 4th. He was quoted as saying he had no idea how to play Augusta National.
Other notables who won’t be around for the weekend include Graeme McDowell, Hunter Mahan, Anthony Kim and former Masters champion Zach Johnson.
Saturday
I’m greatly looking forward to round three. Will Tiger continue to play well? Can McIlroy hold onto the lead?

Incredible golf!! And it sure was great fun watching my man in the red shirt scare a few people, absolutely loved it. The only bad thing was watching Rory struggle, I know we all feel really bad for him. I became a fan of this this week and hope he wins a pile of majors in the future. Hearty Congrats to Schwartzel for pulling off an incredible win; simply outstanding!!
