In a recent post I mentioned opening up comments without registration. It only took about 24 hours for the erectile dysfunction spam comments to start rolling in. The registration process has been turned back on. Sorry. Listen up though! It’s not that hard. You only have to register once then you can comment all you want.
I’m searching for a plug-in which will have an image verification for comments instead of registration.
As long as you don’t block the dysfunction comments then mine may be safe. I understand and agree with you, this is easier for me than the word thing. I guess I have a LD problem with the word thing because I usually get to do them twice before I get it correct.
How ironic to write “it’s not that hard” in a post that mentions erectile dysfunction.
Not that hard indeed …
Dave you are so right. The problem with the visual verification is that you have to do it EVERY time. Registering only happens once. That’s it. Forget it. I’m not doing the visual thing.
Very good point you made. Thanks.
For WordPress I’d suggest the Bad Behavior plugin and then turn on the option so that someone who hasn’t commented before has their comment go into moderation. I run several WP powered blogs and this does the job for me. It also doesn’t force people to register in order to comment.
Isn’t that type of feature built into wordpress already?
options/disucssion: Comment author must have a previously approved comment
Sorry, I should have specified a bit more.
Bad Behavior is a plugin that blocks almost all of the spam dead in it’s tracks. The other option is a part of WordPress and I turn it on for anything that gets past Bad Behavior…it’ll be put into moderation before hitting the live site.
I’ll be checking that out, thanks. I’ve got registration turned back on. Got it back on before the ED hit the fan too bad. WordPress is certainly a gem.
