This weekend I’m going to visit the grounds of Torrey Pines, site of the epic Tiger Woods playoff win over Rocco Mediate in last year’s 2008 US OPEN. I was trying to work a “connection” to get a tee time and play the South Course, but on such short notice that was just too difficult to swing, so to speak. So I’m not bringing my clubs this time around.
I do plan on poking around and taking a few pictures and looking at the 18th green where Tiger made all those incredible putts to put himself into the final group and the playoff. Maybe I’ll even have a BLT there or something.
It’s NOT too late. Just do what I did. Show up before 5:00 AM at the course. From first light to about seven or so, they don’t actually schedule any tee times. Instead, they take whoever is in line. I got in line at five and was teeing off in the third group. The same line serves the north and south courses, so a lot of the locals will head to the north course (the guys in line with me swore it was the better course), and then they’ll start calling for singles to fill in groups of four.

I thought about doing this but I decided not to bring my clubs this time around. It is damn cold here. Colder here than in Salt Lake by a long shot.
