9/11 golf flagPlayed a nice round today at my home course River Oaks with the director of golf and my buddy Shanego who was in from out of town. The round started out quite shaky, but I pulled it together thanks to my buddy Guy and his nice tip on my swing.  I managed a 73 after shooting a much better back nine at -2.

9/11 Flags

At the course today they had a nice touch in the course setup to commemorate the ten year anniversary of 9/11. All of the golf flags were American flags. Nicely played River…

Nice touch. Played a municipal course here in Monmouth County NJ and they didn’t do anything like that.

It is a nice idea in theory…but I guarantee you a bad idea in result.

Isn’t it the case that practically any normally patriotic American citizen would cringe at the idea of an American flag being laid on the ground?

Isn’t it likely the case that a large number of your fellow golfers either don’t know how offensive it is to lay an American flag on the ground and were doing so all day long (18 flags worth)?

I feel giving ANYONE the ready opportunity to lay our country’s symbol upon the ground is only aiding and abetting the idiots that do not know any better or care about our nation’s symbol.

The fact that I would not play River Oak means I certainly did not see the idiots laying our flag on the ground. But I know people well enough to feel 100% confident that it happened all day. I also know your buddy the Dir of Golf well enough to know that he would never have the onions to say a word to anyone he saw violating our flag by laying it on the ground…he’d be too afraid of someone reporting him to his dick head bosses at City Hall.

Maybe after River Oaks is done with the 18 flags (now much dirtier, no doubt), The Dir can FedEx them to Al Queda HQ and they can further defile them.

BTW, the one PGA tour event that uses American flags on the pins (I cannot think of the tournament name)…there are caddies that take EXTREME care never to let our flag touch the ground.

  3. I see your point ISBPD, but I think it shows more respect to have the flag on the pin. I will admit that it did seem odd to put the flag down on the ground and I actually held the stick off the ground when I had it.

It also bugs me to see American flags left out in bad weather. But the reason those traditions started was because flags made 200 years ago were not able to withstand the weather. Pre nylon era.
