I’ve had the opportunity to meet Rocco Mediate on several occasions and he has always been very cool. He’s a very positive cat, so it was quite surprising to read how critical he has been of Tiger Woods’s swing. Check out these quotes Rocco gave the San Francisco Chronicle.
I love the way he plays, but I’m disgusted with what’s going on with him because it’s sad for our game. A lot of guys are happy Tiger isn’t playing well. I’m not.
The physical motion is wrong. To get that stress off his body is a piece of cake–the guys working with him just don’t know. Sean knows some stuff, but what’s going on with Tiger is not correct. That’s why he keeps breaking and that’s why the ball keeps going sideways.
Wow. Gotta hand it to Roc for speaking his mind.
On the positive side Rocco commented on Tiger entering the Frys.com in the fall:
He’s trying to get better, trying to figure out his swing problem. When he gets his stuff together, he’ll be No. 1 again and everything will be back to normal.
Rocco even mentions Tiger’s previous swing coach Hank Haney:
Starting with Haney until now, it was a complete and absolute destruction. If it was me I would say to Tiger, ‘Look, dude, I’m not helping you. You’re getting worse. You’ve broken down three times and you’ve had 57 knee surgeries. It’s not happening.’
I’m not the first to mention this, but perhaps there’s a VHarness sales pitch coming soon from Rocco to Tiger?
nice!
Eldrick just needs to realize that he is Tiger Woods for cryin’ out loud. With his experience, eye-hand coordination and clubhead speed there is no need for a swing coach (which I think is golf’s biggest BS job). In this day of instant and super slow motion video and launch angle and head speed monitors, the man should be able to find what works on his own; all he needs is an IT/Video geek.
